Congratulations to Joanne Hillis from the Hespeler SC for winning the Section Volunteer Coach as a part of the 2020 Skate Canada Section Awards.
Joanne has been a member of the Hespeler SC for 50 years, a very rare milestone to achieve. She started out at the club as a young skater in 1969 and began coaching 30 years ago in 1990, and has coached skaters from age two to 60+. She has been the club Head Coach looking after all of the Skate Canada programming and has implemented and overlooked all of the program changes. For the past 10 years she has built up and revived the Adult program.
For over 25 years, Joanne has worn many different hats on the club’s executive side including club administrator, ice use convener, registration chair and coaches representative. She always goes above and beyond for HSC, volunteering endless hours working on the club’s ice show and attending years of monthly meetings always putting her best foot forward to first and foremost help the club and skaters.
Not only does Joanne volunteer with HSC, she also volunteers with the Hespeler Minor Hockey Association, dedicating her time running fundraisers, tournaments and helping her son’s team over the years. She has also brought the hockey organization together with the figure skating world with the club’s CanPower program.
From all of us at Skate Ontario, congratulations Joanne!
