The Provincial Series Assignment Process (PSAP) offers athletes a guaranteed opportunity to register for a select number of events during an advanced registration period. This helps athletes, coaches, and parents/guardians better plan and prepare for the upcoming competition season.
The 2026-2027 Provincial Series Assignment Process Survey will open on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM ET, and will close on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.
The details outlined below will remain unchanged from the 2025-2026 PSAP:
- The 2026-2027 Provincial Series Assignment Process Survey will be completed through SkateReg.
- Athletes will select and rank in order of preference their top 4 Provincial Series Events that are offered in the 2026-2027 season.
- The targeted minimum number of events that each athlete who completes the survey correctly will receive is 2 of their top 4 events. Information about the number of assigned events each athlete will receive will not be released until after the closing and review of the 2026-2027 PSAP survey.
- A specific event selection process will be in place for those athletes between STAR 4 Freeskate & STAR 5 Freeskate (more details below)
- All public event registrations will be automatically waitlisted to allow a manual review of waitlisted athletes. Athletes will be invited to register off the waitlist based on priority and the need for an additional opportunity. More information to be shared at a later date.
- Event assignments and all direct communication with survey participants will be sent via email from [email protected]. Any questions about the assignment process should be directed to this email as well.
- General questions about Skate Ontario Events should be directed to [email protected].
What are the changes?
- Due to high demand for certain events, a strict 2 category per athlete limit will be in place for the following events: Provincial Series Stratford, Provincial Series Milton, Provincial Series Brampton, and Provincial Series Gloucester (EMWC).
- The goal of this 2-category-per-athlete limit is to ensure fair opportunity for all interested athletes. While we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all interested athletes at these events, we hope that this category limit will open as many spots as possible. Athletes who intend to compete in 3+ categories must be prepared to prioritize which two categories they wish to register for should they be assigned to any of the above stated events.
- All other Provincial Series Events will have a targeted minimum of 2 categories per athlete, with the opportunity to register for 3+ categories if space allows. This will be determined based on the results of the 2026-2027 PSAP Survey and will be communicated prior to advanced registration opening.
- Event assignments will be published online. Athletes will be identified by their Skate Canada number and home club only; athletes’ names will NOT be published. It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that the Skate Canada number listed on the athlete’s SkateReg profile is accurate for easy identification. Skate Ontario is not responsible for invalid or incorrect Skate Canada numbers on your athlete’s SkateReg profile.
- The link to view event assignments will be emailed directly to the user who completed the survey, as well as all coaches listed as Attending Coaches in the survey.
- Advanced registration links will still be emailed directly to the user’s email address by 4:00 PM the business day prior to advanced registration opening.
STAR 4/5 Freeskate Athletes
Last season, users were asked to identify athletes who would be between STAR 4 and 5 freeskate. These athletes received one (1) STAR 4 freeskate assignment, and one (1) STAR 5 freeskate assignment.
This year, users will follow a specific event selection process within the 2026-2027 Provincial Series Assignment Process for athletes who will be between STAR 4 and 5 freeskate for the upcoming season.
- This event selection process will once again allow athletes to receive a split event assignment, rather than committing to either the Provincial Series Assignment Process (STAR 5+), or the STAR 1-4 Assignment Process (STAR 1-4).
- This event selection process will also take into consideration any additional categories at the STAR 5+ level these athletes may compete in, such as Artistic and Ice Dance.
- A detailed user guide and survey preview will be available to assist users in completing this specific STAR 4/5 freeskate event selection process.
Survey Completion
Prior to completing the 2026-2027 Provincial Series Assignment Process Survey, please ensure you have the following:
- A SkateReg Account: To create your account, click here. This will be the same account that you will use to register for events. Please do not create a duplicate account if you already have one. If you require assistance with your SkateReg account, please contact [email protected].
- Correct Skate Canada Number: The Skate Canada number on your athlete’s profile will be used to identify your athlete in connection to their event assignments. Please ensure the Skate Canada number on their profile is correct.
- Your Top 4 Events: We highly recommend that you discuss with your coach prior to completing your survey. You will be required to rank your top four (4) events in order of preference (you must select 4 different events).
- Desired Category(ies): You will be asked to identify which category(ies) you wish to register for this season. This information is collected so that Skate Ontario can more accurately predict the number of requested entries per event. Athletes are not assigned to categories or levels; however, the number of categories an athlete may register for during assigned athlete registration may be restricted as outlined above.
It is crucial that all users understand the importance of completing their survey as accurately as possible. The information that is collected will be used to determine the number of events and categories each athlete who completes the survey is assigned to. Athletes whose surveys are missing information or completed incorrectly may not receive any event assignments, or they may receive an assignment for an event that was not selected in their survey. Please follow the directions closely when completing your survey.
A preview of the 2026-2027 PSAP Survey will be released by Friday, August 7, 2026.
Survey Communication
Final decisions about the number of assigned events and categories per athlete cannot be made until after the closing and review of the 2025-2026 survey. The targeted minimum number of events that each athlete who completes the survey accurately will receive is 2 of their top 4 events, with up to 2 categories per athlete, per assigned event. This is based on historical Provincial Series Assignment Process data and predicted survey submissions for this season. The number of assigned events each athlete will receive may be subject to change if survey response volume or program capacity differs significantly from expectations.
The Provincial Series Assignment Process Survey will be communicated through the following channels:
- Sent via e-mail to all subscribers of the Skate Ontario mailing list
- Posted on Skate Ontario social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook
- Shared on the Skate Ontario Members Portal for clubs and skating schools
- Linked on the main page for the Provincial Series Assignment Process
- Listed on the SkateReg “Events & Courses” page once the survey opens
- Emailed directly to coaches who were listed as an Attending Coach at a 25-26 season Provincial Series event.
