The Mississauga FSC uses continuous lanes, gliding stretches, and full range of motion exercises in their CanSkate cool-down. Their pre-planned cool-down is designed to lower heart rate, decrease energy level and give skaters’ bodies the opportunity to begin the recovery process before leaving the ice.
At MFSC, the coaches lead the cool-down activities with the assistance of their trained program assistants.
Here is an example pulled right from the MFSC CanSkate program:
Lane 1: Full range of motion Arm Circles reaching all the way down to the ice and up overhead- coordinated with 2-foot sculling
Lane 2: Long slow side stretches on both sides while doing a 2-foot glide
Lane 3: Full range of motion Arm Circles reaching all the way down to the ice and up overhead while doing 1-foot glides
Lane 4: Challenge lane- drags and spirals
