Waitlist Information – 2025/2026 Season

Public Registration Waitlists

For the 2025/2026 season, Skate Ontario will be automatically waitlisting public registration for all Provincial Series and STAR 1-4 Series events. This means that at the posted opening time & date of public registration, you will only see an option to “Join Waitlist”.

All waitlisted entries will be reviewed and invited athletes will be emailed directly with a link to register within 72 hours of public registration closing. The goal of this change is to ensure fairness for all athletes who wish to participate in a Skate Ontario event in the 2025/2026 season.

Waitlist Evaluation

For interested athletes, parents, and coaches, we have outlined a list of criteria below that will be considered when reviewing each waitlisted entry for events where there are more waitlisted entries than spots available:

  • The number of events the waitlisted athlete has registered for OR already attended in the 2025/2026 season
  • The number of additional events the waitlisted athlete is assigned to
  • Did the athlete forgo any of their assigned events
  • Athletes who compete in more than two disciplines and/or more than two categories
  • Geography i.e. local athlete vs out of town
  • Time the athlete joined the waitlist (only considered if a “tie break” is necessary after all other criteria has been considered)

Criteria that will not be considered or evaluated when reviewing waitlisted entries:

  • Scores in the current or past seasons
  • Provincial Championship rankings in the current or past seasons
  • Qualifying vs Non-Qualifying categories
  • Gender/Age
  • How the athlete ranked the waitlisted event in the 2025/2026 Provincial Series Survey
  • Public registration will not be on a first-come, first-served basis. The time the athlete joined the waitlist may only be considered if a “tie break” is necessary

Estimated Number of Public Spots Available by Event

  • Public registration spots are estimated based on the number of entries we can accommodate at an event, less the predicted Assigned Athlete entries
  • Assigned Athlete entries are calculated directly from survey submissions received in the Provincial Series Assignment Process
  • The number of public spots may vary significantly if entries received during the Assigned Athlete Registration period are higher or lower than predicted
  • We cannot guarantee any number of spots available during public registration.

Provincial Series #6 Stratford, #10 Milton, #13 Brampton, and #14 Gloucester may have an extremely limited number of public spots available.

*Please note: STAR 1-4 data will not be available until after the close of the STAR 1-4 Assignment Process Survey.

Waitlist Dos and Don’ts

  • Consider your waitlisted events carefully based on the estimated number spots available, along with the evaluation criteria listed above.
  • When joining the waitlist, add your athlete to your desired category(ies) ONLY. Do not join the waitlist for multiple levels of the same discipline, or both qualifying AND non-qualifying options. Doing this significantly inflates waitlist numbers and slows the review process. Please be intentional with your category selection. If you do not plan to register for the category, do not join the waitlist for it.
  • Watch your junk mail! If your athlete is invited to register, you will receive a link direct to your SkateReg user account email. If you do not register before your link expires, the spot will be offered to the next athlete.
  • Register promptly if you receive a link and let us know if you are no longer interested in the spot so that we can offer it to the next athlete.
  • Remove your athlete from the waitlist if you are no longer interested in the event. To remove your athlete from the waitlist, please email [email protected] or the staff contact listed for the event.
