Skate Ontario is proud to announce the launch of the Sectional Series calendar for the 2022-2023 season. The structure of the competition calendar in Ontario is based on Sport for Life and Skate Canada Long Term Development (LTD). Each stage of development has a focused set of principles that we have considered to maximize the growth and development of the Skate Ontario athletes on the Podium and STAR pathways. A balance between appropriate event timing, number of events, training time and recovery time required for each stage was carefully planned in the design of the 2022-2023 schedule.
The calendar was developed as part of an Annual Competition Calendar Review in collaboration with a Sectionals Series Coach Focus Group to ensure Skate Ontario is meeting the objectives for competitions in Ontario. The Annual Competition Calendar review included considerations regarding the Skate Canada Events Calendar, specifically with the introduction of a Novice Nationals in February and new competition timelines for Novice and Pre-Novice Challenge.
It is important to note, that based on the Skate Canada calendar changes, Skate Ontario’s Sectional Series calendar reflects and supports these updates. We have included important format updates for the upcoming season in bullet points below.
Important updates to the Sectional Series calendar for the 2022-2023 season:
July
- This will not be a qualifying event
- Combined programs are not required. Skaters may register for a Short and/or a Free Program
- Pre-Juvenile or Juvenile categories will NOT be offered at this event
- Skate Canada is organizing a Next Gen competition and camp for NextGen Team members in conjunction with the July event. Some additional Junior skaters/teams may be invited to compete in this NextGen competition. More details to be released from Skate Canada.
August
- This will not be a qualifying event
- Only combined categories will be offered
- Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile categories will be offered at this event
September
- No Sectional series event in September
October
- This will be the first qualifying event of the Sectional Series
- Only combined categories will be offered
- Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile categories will be offered at this event
November
- Junior and Senior Sectional Series Championships
- Qualifying event for Novice and Pre-Novice categories
- All categories will be combined
- Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile categories will not be offered at this event
December
- Pre-Novice and Novice Sectional Series Championships
- Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile categories will be offered at this event
- This event will not be a qualifying event for Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile categories

Super Series and STAR 1-4 Calendar Update:
