The 2020-2021 Officials Award goes to Cherie Alexander from the West Toronto Skating Club!
Figure skating in Ontario would not be possible without the countless hours and expertise that Officials donate to the sport. These dedicated volunteers truly lend their passion and knowledge to better figure skating. Cherie is no stranger to embodying these values having been a long-time Official in Ontario.
Cherie offered her time this season during the pandemic officiating at the Skate Ontario Sectional Championships at the Toronto hub. Not only does Cherie selflessly offer her time at the section level, this year she also volunteered to help her club and the skaters doing seminars via Zoom. She talked to skaters about how judging and marking works, and what judges look for and what they want to see. She also worked directly with a few of the skaters to give feedback and discussed the point system.
“Cherie has been very positive and been interactive with the kids in an amazing way. She was very willing and amazing at sharing her knowledge with our skaters and it was very much appreciated both by our skaters and our coaches.”
