Job Description

The Forest Hill Figure Skating Club (FHFSC) is seeking a motivated and well-organized StarSkate Director to join our team. This individual will be responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of the club’s StarSkate program, ensuring it aligns with Skate Canada standards and delivers a high-quality experience for skaters, coaches, and families. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and a commitment to supporting the growth of our StarSkate program in accordance with the best practices of Skate Ontario and Skate Canada. 

Job Title: StarSkate Director 

Location: Forest Hill Figure Skating Club, Toronto, ON 

Type: Part-Time 
Reports to: Club Board of Directors 

Key Responsibilities: 

Program Oversight & Development 

  • Develop, plan, and implement the StarSkate program in accordance with Skate Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model and guidelines. 
  • Transition the current club StarSkate program in accordance with Skate Ontario’s STAR 1-5 Excellence Recognition Program; the club should be registered as ‘Engaged Standard’ for the 2026/2027 season 
  • Work with the CanSkate Director to create a transition plan for CanSkate and PreSTAR skaters into the STAR 1-5 program. 
  • Create seasonal schedules, training plans, and lesson structures for group instruction. 
  • Generate skater registration reports from Uplifter and organize groups on the appropriate sessions. 
  • Record skater achievements for ongoing progress tracking. 
  • Assign coaching staff to STAR 1-5 groups and monitor lesson quality. 
  • Ensure all skaters have appropriate assessment and testing opportunities, including Skate Canada assessments. 
  • Assist with skater transition out of the STAR 1-5 program to ensure participants can continue their skating development. 

Coaching & Supervision 

  • Provide scheduling of on-ice and off-ice coaching to StarSkate group members. 
  • Mentor and support other StarSkate coaches to ensure consistency, quality, and professionalism.
  • Ensure coach compliance with Skate Canada policies, including first aid, Safe Sport, and NCCP certification, and other required professional development.

Communication & Administration 

  • Communicate effectively with parents, skaters, and coaches regarding schedules, progress, and upcoming events. 
  • Share information about upcoming Skate Ontario events and competitions with coaches, parents and skaters. 
  • Coordinate with the Club’s board on program goals, reporting, and budgeting. 
  • Organize and attend meetings as required (coach meetings, parent info sessions, board updates). 
  • Provide content for the club’s social media accounts on relevant STAR 1-5 activities and events. 
  • Work with Club Administrator to ensure accuracy of STAR 1-5 group coach invoices. 

Events & Testing 

  • Ensure STAR 1-5 skaters are assessed by a qualified assessor as required and monitor the integrity of club assessment standards.
  • Organize and manage test days, competitions, and performance days (2 per year). 
  • Liaise with evaluators and officials for test days and ensure all documentation is accurate and submitted on time. 
  • Assist Ice Show Coordinator with group organization and performances for StarSkater’s in the annual Ice Show 

Leadership & Club Involvement 

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive club culture for skaters of all levels. 
  • Act as a leader and ambassador of the StarSkate program within the club and community. 
  • Stay up-to-date on Skate Canada policies, rule changes, and best practices. 

Qualifications: 

  • Skate Canada NCCP Regional Coach (or higher) in good standing.
  • Proven experience coaching at the StarSkate level (minimum 2 years recommended). 
  • Certified STAR 1-5 Coach Assessor 
  • Solid understanding of the current CanSkate program to ensure a seamless transition for club skaters. 
  • Knowledge and experience with all disciplines of the STAR 1-5 program (skating skills, freeskate and ice dance). 
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Familiarity with Skate Canada’s STAR 1-5 and beyond assessment structure. 

Assets (Preferred):

  • Experience working in a club leadership or director role. 
  • Additional certifications (e.g., CanPowerSkate, Off-Ice Training). 
  • Experience managing teams or group performance projects (ice shows, showcases).  

Additional Info:

  • Our programming runs seven days a week out of Larry Grossman Arena and Phil White Arena (both located in mid-town Toronto), with our regular season running September to June, and continued, limited ice time in July and August
