Job Description

The Kitchener Waterloo Skating Club (KWSC) is located in the twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo, with our home facility at the Carolyn Fedy Skating Centre, RIM Park. With over 4,000 members, KWSC is Canada’s largest skating club. KWSC delivers a wide range of skating and athletic development programs, including figure skating, CanSkate,Twin City Hockey Skating School Power Skating, and high-performance training through The Athletic Centre and The Rotation Room in KW. The club also operates seasonal programs such as summer camps and March Break camps, and hosts numerous events throughout the year including Freeskate Festival, Simulation Days, Ice Show, Skate Ontario competitions, awards events, seminars, and athlete development initiatives.

Job Summary

The Spin Specialist Coach is responsible for leading spin development within the club by working directly with skaters to develop, enhance, and maintain high-quality spins across all levels. This role supports a collaborative coaching model, working in alignment with each skater’s Base Coach and the Technical Director to ensure spin development reflects current Skate Canada and ISU requirements and supports each athlete’s overall training plan.



Pay / Employment:

  • Hourly employee of the club

  • Consistent paid hours (not affected by skater attendance due to illness or absence)

  • Over 20 hours per week available, paid directly by the club (no invoicing of skaters), exception of 4 break weeks per year following club scheduling.

  • Employees working 20 hours or more per week are eligible for employee health benefits

  • Opportunities for additional work outside club-scheduled hours may be available, subject to demand and availability (e.g., choreography or additional private work)

  • Location: On-site at Kitchener-Waterloo Skating Club, 2001 University Avenue East, Suite 10, Waterloo, Ontario, N2K 4K4

  • Reports To: Technical Director

  • Works collaboratively with: Base Coaches and Club Coaching Team

  • Start Date: Monday, March 16, 2026. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of extension. As this is a newly created role, performance and scope will be reviewed regularly throughout the contract term


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead spin development for club skaters by working directly with athletes through private, semi-private, and small-group lessons, following the direction of each skater’s Base Coach

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of club-designated spin group classes in collaboration with the Technical Director

  • Work collaboratively with Base Coaches, recognizing them as the primary decision-makers in athlete development and supporting spin development within each athlete’s overall training plan

  • Act as a technical resource and subject-matter expert in spin development for the coaching team

  • Monitor, interpret, and apply annual Skate Canada and ISU rule changes related to spins, ensuring all instruction reflects the most current technical requirements

  • Communicate regularly with Base Coaches and the Technical Director regarding athlete progress, priorities, and technical considerations

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with coaches and athletes by involving relevant stakeholders in technical discussions and decision-making

  • Participate in professional development opportunities as provided by the club

  • Uphold club standards related to professionalism, athlete welfare, and safety


Additional Information

  • Scheduled club hours of approximately 20 hours per week or more, Late afternoon & evenings Monday through Friday.

  • Schedule developed collaboratively, with responsibility transitioning to the Spin Specialist over time
