Job Description
The Ancaster Skating Club is seeking a Regional Certified Coach to join our team for the 2026-2027 season.
About the Ancaster Skating Club
The Ancaster Skating Club is a volunteer-run and not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for skaters at all levels and for ages 2&up. We foster positive, lifelong participation in and passion for skating among all our members through teamwork, quality coaching, achievement, fitness and fun, supported by our values of respect, accountability, inclusion, safety and excellence.
We are a proud participant in the Skate Ontario Club Modernization project and are honoured to have earned the Exceeded Standard designation in both the Skate Ontario CanSkate and Star 1-5 Excellence Programs.
We offer programming 6 days per week in CanSkate (including Parent & Tot and Pre-CanSkate), PowerSkate, and StarSkate. We are partners with the Steel City Synchro organization and have several Adult synchronized skating teams. We operate out of Morgan Firestone Arena in Ancaster between September and mid-May and offer programming at other Hamilton facilities between mid-May and August. During September to mid-May, our programs run Saturday/Sunday mornings and Monday/Tuesday/ Thursday/Friday late afternoon/evenings. The Ancaster Skating Club was established in the 1970’s and normally registers over 500 skaters annually with 75-85 of them being StarSkaters.
Position Overview/Key Responsibilities
We are seeking an enthusiastic, positive and committed Regional Certified Coach to join our coaching team in September 2026. Coaches work collaboratively within a team-coaching model to create a positive, safe and inclusive athlete centered environment to support skater development from introductory to advanced levels, aligned with Skate Canada and Skate Ontario standards. Our StarSkate program integrates on-ice instruction with off-ice athletic development, providing a comprehensive training environment that fosters skill progression, confidence, and long-term athlete success. The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive, consistent and reliable coaching on both CanSkate and StarSkate. Within the StarSkate program, coaches do not build individual private clientele; instead, all coaching (group and private) is assigned and scheduled by the StarSkate Coordinator to support all club skaters. Individual coaching schedules depend on skater registration levels and coach availability. Candidates must be able to commit to 2-3 weeknights and 1 day on the weekend. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide high-quality coaching in the CanSkate program as well as in freeskate, skills and dance in the StarSkate program.
- Guide and support skater development in alignment with Skate Canada/Skate Ontario standards and best practices.
- Prepare and support skaters for assessments, competitions, and performances.
- Contribute to off-ice athletic development.
- Collaborate with the coaching team and club leadership.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with skaters, parents/guardians, other coaches and club leadership.
- Contribute/support club events.
Qualifications
- Skate Canada NCCP certification (Regional coach certified or higher preferred, or fulfilling all current requirements); in good standing with Skate Canada.
- Minimum 2 years of experience preferred coaching within the STARskate program, including experience in teaching figure skating disciplines from Star 1 through to Gold.
- Passionate about team coaching and athlete development; comfortable working in a team environment.
- Committed to developing skaters in a fun, encouraging, positive environment.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience conducting STAR 1-5 assessments.
- Reliable, committed and accountable work ethic and team member.
- Passionate working with children, teens and adults.
- Upholds all professional and safe sport standards without compromise and maintains the highest standards of professionalism in both communication and conduct.
Not Required, but Considered an Asset
- Interested in a long-term role within the club.
- Familiarity with Skate Ontario’s club Modernization Pilot Program and ElevateON Program.
- Experience in other sports or professional coaching, in addition to figure skating.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (coaching, athletics, fitness, etc.).
