Job Description

Certified or Trained Regional Coach

The Cambridge Skating Club has been offering skating programs for 73 years out of historic Galt Arena Gardens in Cambridge. We are an Exceeded Standard Canskate Excellence club and offer both Canskate and STARSkate programs, from tots to adults. We typically register over 300 skaters each season with 50- 60 of them being STARSkaters. Our STARSkate program is continuing to grow!

We are seeking a professional, enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated Regional STARSkate Coach to join our coaching team. We would prefer a certified Regional Coach, but we will also consider coaches that are Regional Trained. The successful candidates would be willing to coach from Pre-Canskate through to Gold levels in both group lesson and private lesson format. It is preferable that the coach is able to work with skaters from STAR 1 to Gold in the freeskate, dance, skills and artistic disciplines.

The successful candidates will be expected to provide a safe, encouraging, and positive training environment for all skaters, parents, coaches, officials, and volunteers. You will play a fundamental role in the development of skaters for testing, competition and recreation in a fun and inclusive environment. Our programs run on Monday 5:00-8:00pm, Wednesday 5:30-9:30pm, Friday 4:30-7:00pm and Saturday 7:30am-2pm from September to April. During the spring and summer months our STARSkaters, if interested, usually join a local off-season skating school.

The Applicant shall have:

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Previous coaching experience preferred
  • Coach in good standing with Skate Canada
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Completion of respect in Sport Activity Leader Training
  • Agreed to the Skate Canada Code of Ethics

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high standard of coaching to skaters across different age groups and skill levels.
  • Create a positive and supportive training environment that fosters teamwork, respect,
    discipline, and sportsmanship
  • Demonstrate a reliable and committed work ethic
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with skaters, parents, and board members regarding training schedules, competition plans, and progress updates.
  • Willing to collaborate with other coaches in group programs to create cohesive training strategies and ensure consistent coaching methods and techniques.
  • Analyze and assess skaters’ performances, providing constructive feedback and personalized coaching to enhance their skills and address areas for improvement.
  • Attend and provide coaching support to your skaters during competitions.
  • Attend coaches meeting when scheduled.
  • Stay updated with the latest updates from Skate Canada.
