Job Description
CanSkate and Shooting Stars Job Description:
Parkhill Skating Club is looking for a CanSkate and Shooting Stars coach for our upcoming 2024-2025 season.
Our club is located approximately 40 minutes outside of London, Ontario. Currently, our club runs CanSkate, Shooting Stars, StarSkate, and Synchro programs. Our club is recognized as Achieved Standard in CanSkate Excellence recognition program.
Our CanSkate session runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (ice times TBD) for 45 minutes per session. This session includes our PreCanSkaters to CanSkate 3 level skaters. Our Shooting Stars session runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (ice times TBD) for 45 minutes per session. This session includes our CanSkate 4-6 level skaters and Star 1 skaters. These sessions are offered from October to the middle of March (20-week sessions).
Our StarSkate session runs twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This session has our StarSkate 2 and higher skaters (skaters must have passed 2 Star 1 tests in order to move onto this ice session). These sessions are offered from October to middle of March, with additional spring skating sessions from middle of March to beginning of April.
Responsibilities:
- Run a circuit on the CanSkate session and deliver CanSkate lessons by following the Skate Canada CanSkate program guidelines
- Lead the PreCanSkate off-ice warm up
- Assist in leading the cool-down activity
- Create a positive, encouraging, and fun learning environment for our skaters
- Assess skater’s progress and provide individualized feedback
- Assist in the PA training sessions (one in September for 1 hour on ice and 1 hour off ice, and one over the winter holidays in December/January as a refresher session for 1 hour and an activity to follow)
- Assist in the testing of skaters
- Participate in all group lessons of the Shooting Stars sessions, leading when required, providing support through technique correction of skaters during these times
- Collaborate with other coaches
- Help assist with group numbers for Holiday Showcase and Carnival
- Participate in all group lessons of the StarSkate sessions, leading when required, providing support through technique correction of skaters during these times
- Assist in the testing of StarSkaters
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Valid First Aid certification
- NCCP certification
- Membership in good standing with Skate Canada
- CanSkate Coach Certification
- Excellent team building and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Reliability and a commitment to program excellence
- Regional Coach In-Training Certification or higher
