Job Description

The Granite Club is seeking a motivated and organized Power Skating Coach to support the delivery of Power Skating Groups and Private instruction. The Power Skating Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality on-ice instruction that develops skating technique, speed, agility, balance, edge control, and overall athletic performance. Working with hockey players and recreational skaters of varying ages and skill levels, the coach creates a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment while helping participants achieve their skating goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver power skating lessons for individuals and groups.
- Teach proper skating mechanics, including:
- Forward and backward skating
- Edge work and balance
- Stride development
- Acceleration and speed
- Agility and quickness
- Stops, starts, and transitions
- Develop progressive lesson plans appropriate for participant age and ability.
- Assess athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor participant safety and ensure adherence to rink and club policies.
- Maintain attendance records and communicate participant progress to parents and athletes when required.
- Collaborate with power skating coaches, skating professionals, and office staff to support athlete development.
- Assist with evaluations, demonstrations, special events, and skating camps.
- Stay current with coaching techniques and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong skating background with demonstrated proficiency in advanced skating skills.
- NCCP Coach Certification.
- Experience coaching or instructing power skating, hockey skating, figure skating, or related programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with children, youth, and adults.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred
- CanSkate, Hockey Canada Skills Coach, or equivalent coaching certifications.
- Professional skating or competitive hockey/figure skating experience.
- Previous experience delivering group and private lessons.
Hours: Part-time, evenings and weekends.
