Team Ontario talent was on full display last weekend in Edmonton at the Skate Canada Trophy, an event for the Pre-Novice and Novice levels.

There were medals up for grabs to be sure, however, at a competition like this there is always more at play.
Whether it’s landing a difficult combination, achieving a personal best score, or standing atop the podium, success is not just about medals—it’s about growth, resilience, and the ability to perform when it matters most.
Catching up with coach David Long after the event, he declared the event “Awesome!” His student Jenson Raybould was in fine form. “Going to a new province for the first time and representing Skate Ontario and his club with two solid skates and a personal best long program and overall score,” said David.
For David, there was also a lot to celebrate as a coach: “It was fantastic to see Jenson’s maturity develop as the week went on. After an unfortunate and unpreventable mishap occurred in the short program, he took it in stride and delivered a clean long program, which helped him climb 11 spots in the final rankings.” Talk about being #SkateOntarioProud!
