Congratulations to Kim Savoie: Club/Skating School Volunteer of the Year

Kim with Scott Rachuk, Director of ElevateON, at the Sioux Lookout SC end-of-year ice show.

Skate Ontario is proud to recognize Kim Savoie of the Sioux Lookout Skating Club as the 2026 Volunteer of the Year, celebrating her outstanding dedication, leadership, and commitment to her skating community.

Kim’s journey as a volunteer began when her children first took to the ice in CanSkate. Like many parents, she initially supported the club by helping with fundraising initiatives and year‑end events. As her children progressed through STARSkate, her involvement naturally grew — but it was during the challenges of the COVID‑19 pandemic that Kim truly stepped into a leadership role.

Recognizing the need for strong volunteer support during a time of significant change, Kim became increasingly involved in guiding the Sioux Lookout SC through uncertainty and growth. She began attending board meetings regularly, contributing ideas and support wherever needed. Her willingness to step forward and embrace new responsibilities eventually led her to take on the role of Club President, where she continues to play a key part in shaping the club’s direction.

Kim’s approach to volunteering is both hands‑on and adaptable. She has contributed to the review and redevelopment of key policies, procedures, and bylaws, helping strengthen the club’s governance, while also supporting day‑to‑day activities — from organizing initiatives to volunteering at events. Her ability to balance strategic leadership with practical support reflects her deep commitment to the success of the club.

For Kim, this recognition is about more than individual achievement. It reflects the collective efforts of the entire volunteer team she works alongside.

“Being selected as Volunteer of the Year is a true honour and privilege. It reflects not just my efforts, but the commitment and dedication of the entire team of volunteers I have the privilege to work alongside. Our club really does feel like a family, and that sense of connection is what makes the work so meaningful.”

Kim’s impact extends beyond her individual contributions — she has helped foster a strong, supportive, and collaborative environment within her club. Her leadership and passion exemplify the vital role volunteers play in building and sustaining thriving skating communities across Ontario.

Congratulations, Kim, on this well‑deserved honour, and thank you for everything you do to support skating.
