Welcome coaches! This page is designed to provide you with all the essential information you need to succeed as a Coach Assessor in STAR 6-Gold Skills and Artistic.
Updated Coach Assessor Pathway Requirements – January 7, 2025
Coaches who are interested in becoming a STAR 6-Gold Skills or Artistic Coach Assessor are now able to Request their Promotion by completing the following steps:
Step 1: Review Training Prerequisites
- Must be 16 years of age
- Skating Background
- Any two of STAR 5 Free Skating, Skill, Dance or
- Any one STAR 6 Free Skating, Skills, Dance
- Complete Respect in Sport
- Complete Code of Ethics
- Attend (or have attended) a STAR 1-5 Excellence Webinar
- Encourage Club or Skating School to be enrolled in the STAR 1-5 Excellence Recognition Program

Step 2: Complete the following course(s) and exam(s) on Skate Canada’s e-learning site:
- STAR 6-Gold Training eLearning Courses (Artistic and/or Skills)
- STAR 6-Gold Training: Skills (eLearning Module + Exam)
Step 3: Submit the Following Information to Ally McLeod ([email protected]):
- Proof of registration and Good Standing Coach
- Proof of NCCP Regional Coach Certified or higher NCCP status
- Proof of STAR 1-5 Coach Assessor Training (Certificate)
- Proof of STAR 6-Gold Training: Introduction (eLearning Module)
- Proof of STAR 6-Gold Training: Skills (eLearning Module + Exam)
- Skate Canada Number
Step 4: Complete a Mentored Assessment
Coaches will then need to complete a mentored Assessment (for each discipline).
Please complete the following this form to request a mentored assessment:
- Ally McLeod will follow up to arrange a mentored assessment.
Step 5: Certification Review
Once the mentored assessment is complete, Skate Ontario will review completed packages and follow up with an email regarding your certification with any questions. It may take up to five business days to review packages.
Note: STAR 6-Gold Skills Coach Assessors who received their promotion BEFORE October 1, 2024, will not have to complete the mentored assessment before being granted their promotion.

-Access the Skate Canada e-learning portal for all courses and exams.
What if my club is not currently enrolled as a STAR 1-5 Excellence Recognition Program?
–It is not a requirement for your club to be enrolled but strongly advised to introduce your club to this program. Please see our website.
