The 2020-2021 Club Volunteer Award goes to Brandi Schott from the Brant Skating Club!
Volunteers are the pillars of skating communities across the province. Skating would simply not exist without the dedicated individuals who give back so much to the sport. This was especially crucial over this past year, and as the President of the Brant Skating Club, Brandi really went above and beyond for the club as well as other organizations in the Brantford community. This ensured as many people could get on the ice as possible. ” She has handled new schedules, new Covid protocols, high performance training ice and negotiated with our city and our facilities for ice time for our skaters.”
Not only did she fight for ice time at the grassroots level, Brandi was also instrumental in getting Canada’s pair teams to the World Championships this season. Both teams of Evelyn Walsh & Trennt Michaud and Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro were able to train uninterrupted in order to prepare for Worlds because of Brandi’s efforts and organization.
During lockdowns, Brandi continued to set up online classes to appeal to members of all levels at the club. “When Covid hit our lives, Brandi threw herself into the club and insuring everyone was okay. Through all of the lockdowns and zone changes; Brandi worked night and day to make sure our skaters were still connected and involved.”
Brandi went above and beyond for not only the skaters, but for all members of the club including coaches and parents. “I cannot say enough about what she has done for our club and our sport. The entire Brant community would agree this is why Brandi Schott needs to be recognized for her hard work and love of our sport.”
From all of us at Skate Ontario, congratulations to Brandi for winning the Club Volunteer Award as part of the 2020-2021 Skate Ontario Recognition Awards!
