The 2020-2021 Club Award goes to the Elora and District Skating Club!
It has not been easy year for clubs and skating schools trying to stay up to date with different roadblocks and restrictions. The Elora and District SC is a small town skating club who went above and beyond to engage their members regardless of if they were permitted on the ice or not. ” With the shutdown of sports complexes, teams and pretty much all activities for our children, it was amazing how this club pivoted a number of times to try their best to keep their athletes connected and active.”
They kept athletes engaged, offering virtual exercise classes when they were unable to get on the ice and also added new programming (power skating) geared towards hockey players who were unable to play hockey but wanted to keep their skills strong.
They always kept families up to date with the latest information, navigated the different restrictions beautifully to allow as many skaters on the ice as possible and volunteers always happily greeted the skaters back on the ice keeping the safety of the skaters first and foremost.
To top everything off, the coaches put on a Facebook Live show at the end of the year for parents, families and friends to enjoy while the skaters put on their dresses and performed their solos. “Amazing job to keep the spirit for so many skaters who love the sport.”
“This skating club ALWAYS goes over and above.”
From all of us at Skate Ontario, congratulations to the Elora & District Skating Club for winning the Club Award as part of the 2020-2021 Skate Ontario Recognition Awards!
