Another Wonderful Ontario Volunteer, Joanne Shaw

By: Skate Ontario Staff

Skate Ontario is thrilled to announce that Joanne Shaw has recently been awarded with the ISU Gold Award of Merit.

When asked for her reaction at receiving this important award, Joanne said, “I am honoured and humbled that I would receive this award.”

Joanne joins an elite club of recipients who have been honoured by the ISU Council for their outstanding contribution to ISU skating at the international level.  This prestigious award may only be awarded to past ISU Office Holders or other individuals who have served the ISU sport disciplines.

Joanne was an ISU Synchronized Skating Referee and Technical Controller who served as a member of the ISU Synchronized Skating Committee from 2002-2010. She played an integral part in the development of the current judging system for synchronized skating.

Joanne has devoted countless hours to the sport of figure skating at the International, National and local levels. She assisted with the development of figure skating through membership on many National Committees and is one of a very few to become a National Level official in multiple disciplines.  Since retiring from International officiating, Joanne has continued to provide her expertise to the education and development of skaters, coaches, and officials, not only within Ontario, but across the country.

We celebrate Joanne for her exemplary service, passion and commitment to the sport of figure skating.

Congratulations Joanne! We are #SkateOntarioProud
