Letter for Skate Ontario Family
Re: Alexandra Paul
Dear Skate Ontario Family,
As many of you may have already heard, the skating family at large suffered a devastating loss last week when one of our own, Olympian Alexandra Paul, was killed in a car crash at the age of 31.
This talented and beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend was known for her warmth, her dedication, and her spirit on and off the ice. She and husband and dance partner Mitchell Islam rose to the highest ranks of our sport, representing Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, a legacy that lives on. For this young couple, the even greater legacy is with their son Charlie who was born in the Fall of 2022.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Alex on Thursday evening in Barrie from 7pm-9pm at the Barrie Country Club with details outlined in the obituary below.
Alex leaves a gaping hole in the lives of her family and friends that is hard to imagine. Our thoughts are with the Paul and Islam families as they negotiate this difficult and devastating time.
With sadness in our collective hearts,
Andrea Derby, Section Chair
Lisa Alexander, Executive Director
