In this special edition event preview, we’ll be taking a closer look at what makes this event so important, from understanding the pathway to Challenge and the Canadian National Skating Championships to everything you need to know before competition begins.
Whether you’re a skater, coach, parent, official, volunteer, or fan, join us as we count down to one of the most exciting events of the season and celebrate the athletes who have worked tirelessly to earn their place at Sectionals.
Understanding the Sectionals Pathway
The 2027 Skate Ontario Junior & Senior Sectional Championships are an important step on the road to some of Canada’s highest levels of competition.
To qualify for Sectionals, athletes must achieve the required Qualifying Minimum Score (QMS) at approved events throughout the season. Athletes moving to a higher category may use a qualifying score earned in a lower category, provided it meets the QMS requirement for their new level.
Once qualified, athletes compete at Sectionals against the top skaters in Ontario. Entry numbers are capped in each discipline and category, making qualification an achievement in itself.
For Junior and Senior athletes, Sectionals is an opportunity to compete at a high-performance event, gain valuable experience, and continue working toward their competitive goals. Whether that goal is earning a podium finish, achieving a personal best, or showcasing the results of months of training, Sectionals brings together some of the province’s strongest competitors for one of the most important events of the season.
