Job Description

The Test Dance Coach specializes in the technical instruction, execution, and preparation of Skate Canada pattern ice dances across all STARSkate test streams (STAR 1 to Gold). This role focuses on technical mastery, edge quality, timing, and pattern accuracy.  The coach will directly assess skaters at the STAR 1–5 levels and systematically prepare advanced skaters to pass Test Days at the STAR 6–Gold levels.

Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Instruction: Teach Skate Canada compulsory pattern dances from STAR 1 up to Gold levels.
  • STAR 1–5 Internal Testing: Function as a Coach Assessor to evaluate, grade, and sign off on internal STAR 1–5 dance tests during regular club sessions.
  • STAR 6–Gold Test Prep: Expertly prepare skaters for formal, external evaluation by official Skate Canada Evaluators.
  • Partner Coordination: Prepare skaters to test either solo or alongside a certified dance partner, coordinating logistics for test day simulation if required and attending Test Days coordinated by the Club.
  • Partnering Ability (Asset): Ability to physically partner skaters on the ice during training sessions to demonstrate proper holds and tracking.
  • Administrative Submissions: Complete, sign, and log official Skate Canada assessment sheets for STAR 1–5 and submit relevant test data to the Club Manager.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed records of skaters’ progress through the Skate Canada testing framework.
