Position Summary

BFSC is seeking motivated, organized, and team-oriented Regional and Provincial Coaches to lead and support the delivery of Regional and Provincial STAR programming under the guidance of the Technical Director. The ideal candidate is a strong self-starter, consistent communicator, committed to excellence, professional, and passionate about helping skaters progress through the STAR pathway.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Supervision

• Create and lead on-ice Regional and Provincial group sessions with professionalism and punctuality.

• Create and lead Regional and Provincial off-ice classes with professionalism and punctuality.
  

• Track and record skater achievements for ongoing progress monitoring.
  

• Ensure skaters are provided with appropriate Skate Canada assessment and testing opportunities.
  

• Support and collaborate with other CanSkate and STARSkate coaches as well as BFSC Board Members in a team-oriented environment to ensure consistency, quality, and professionalism.
  

• Maintain compliance with Skate Canada requirements (First Aid, Safe Sport, NCCP certification, professional development).

Communication & Administration

• Communicate effectively and frequently with parents, skaters, and coaches regarding schedules, progress, and upcoming events.
  

• Share detailed information about competitions, assessments, and club activities in a timely manner with families.
  

• Coordinate with the BFSC Board and Technical Director on programming goals, reporting, and budgeting needs.
  

• Actively participate in coach meetings, parent information sessions, and board presentations as required.
  

• Work with Club Membership to ensure accuracy of STAR group coach invoices and administrative tracking.

Events & Testing

• Organize and support STAR assessments with qualified assessors, ensuring alignment with Skate Canada standards.
  

• Assist in organizing test days, competitions, and performance opportunities for STARskate.
  

• Support the Technical Director with group choreography and organization for CanSkate, Future STAR, STAR numbers in the annual Flashing Blades Show.
  

Leadership & Club Involvement

• Demonstrate a lifelong passion for the sport of figure skating by being willing to continue education.
  

• Model and promote a positive team-oriented, inclusive, and athlete-centered club culture.
  

• Serve as an ambassador of the STARSkate program within the club and the community.
  

• Stay up-to-date on Skate Canada rule changes, program updates, and best practices.
  

• Support Safe Sport principles in all coaching interactions.
  

• Take the lead in event organization by collaborating with BFSC board members.

Administration Duties

• Scheduling
  

• Booking ice
  

• Competition and event emails
  

• Emailing parents/guardians

• Other admin tasks TBD 

Hours & Availability

BFSC programming runs six days per week from September to June, with additional daytime training opportunities available July through August.
Typical working hours include:

• Weekday early mornings, and late afternoons/evenings
  

• Weekend mornings and/or afternoons
  Total hours will be finalized with the successful candidate based on experience and availability.

Compensation

Competitive coaching rates based on experience, NCCP level, and responsibilities. Compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
