The Lindsay Skating Club had a memorable experience at the 2026 Skate Ontario Provincial Championships, filled with both excitement and a few nerves along the way. The event was very well organized, and the host club created a welcoming atmosphere while delivering an excellent awards presentation. Club members also enjoyed the opportunity to watch many talented up-and-coming athletes perform.

This season marked a return to Provincials for Lindsay Skating Club athlete, Jacob Disher, who previously competed at the 2025 Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in Pre-Juvenile Dance. This year, Jacob qualified in both the Star 5 Men U10 and Pre-Juvenile Dance with his partner (Liliana). Jacob and his partner delivered a strong performance, earning a first-place finish in a closely contested event, which was an exciting achievement. In Star 5 Men U10, while the performance didn’t go exactly as hoped, it provided a valuable learning experience. Overall, the club is proud of its skaters’ efforts and is already looking ahead with enthusiasm to next season’s competitions.

How does your club/school create and maintain a safe, welcoming environment for its skaters, coaches and volunteers?

The Lindsay Skating Club is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment through a combination of clear policies, education, and a strong community culture. The club’s mission emphasizes providing programs “in a safe and positive environment” where participants can enjoy skating for fun, fitness, and achievement. To support this, the club enforces a comprehensive Code of Conduct for skaters, coaches, parents, and volunteers, promoting respectful behaviour and ensuring that any actions that could cause harm or discomfort are not tolerated.

Safety is further reinforced through structured policies such as a Dispute Resolution Policy, which ensures fairness, transparency, and timely handling of concerns, as well as concussion awareness and education aligned with Rowan’s Law to protect athlete well-being. Additionally, the club fosters a welcoming atmosphere by building a supportive community where members are encouraged to connect, participate, and contribute, helping everyone feel valued and included. Skaters, coaches and volunteers are encouraged to get involved to create a collaborative space to grow our sport and our creativity within it. Coaches play a key role in this environment by encouraging confidence, resilience, and personal goal-setting in each skater, helping them grow both on and off the ice.

In what ways does your club support one or more of Skate Ontario’s values of leadership, accountability, collaboration and excellence?

The Lindsay Skating Club demonstrates leadership and excellence through its participation in Skate Ontario’s Club Modernization Program, which introduces innovative training approaches combining on-ice instruction with off-ice physical literacy. This ensures skaters receive high-quality, well-rounded development and reflects a commitment to continuous improvement. Collaboration is evident in the club’s team-teaching model, where coaches work together to provide consistent feedback and support, creating a unified and athlete-focused training environment. The club also promotes accountability through its structured policies, volunteer requirements, and governance by an active board of directors who meet regularly to oversee programming, events, and community engagement.

Together, these practices ensure that the club not only meets but exceeds standards, as reflected in its recognition within Skate Ontario CanSkate and Star 1-5 excellence programs. Through this structure, coaches actively mentor skaters to take ownership of their progress, build discipline, and strive for personal excellence.

What makes you most proud to be a part of the Lindsay SC?

What makes being part of the Lindsay Skating Club most meaningful is its strong sense of community and long-standing impact. With over 75 years of history, the club has supported thousands of skaters of all ages and abilities, helping them grow both on and off the ice. The club’s commitment to inclusivity ensures that everyone has the opportunity to participate and succeed. Equally inspiring is the positive, athlete-focused environment, where skaters are encouraged to develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of skating. Being part of a community that values friendship, support, and personal achievement makes the Lindsay Skating Club a place members can truly be proud of.
