Welcome to the Langton Skating Club, where small-town heart meets skating excellence!

Since 1971, The Langton SC has provided top-notch CanSkate, STARSkate and Synchronized Skating programs to Langton, Ontario and the surrounding areas. This club combines the drive and precision to deliver top-tier skating programs with the warmth and support that define a close-knit community. Langton SC skaters and families experience a sense of belonging here that feels like family.

This club is deeply embedded in a community with a rich history and passion for skating. Skating has long been a valued part of Langton’s local culture, and Langton SC is proud to serve as the hub for the Ice Crystals Synchronized Skating teams, supporting five synchro teams from Star 1 Elementary to Adult. These teams have seen significant success in recent seasons, and the Ice Crystals Star 4 team are even the winners of the 2024 Skate Ontario Synchro STAR Award!

According to Executive Board Member Jessica Van Laecke, “Our club prides itself on a skater-first philosophy, and this commitment guided us when we encountered challenges with our ice schedules. Some time slots proved difficult for our skaters, limiting their ability to participate fully, especially for those interested in multi-night sessions. To address this, we restructured our schedule to better accommodate our skaters’ needs, maximizing opportunities for participation across multiple sessions. This change has made a significant difference, allowing more skaters to engage consistently and making our programming more accessible. By prioritizing the needs of our skaters, we’ve strengthened our commitment to their growth and enjoyment of the sport.”

This season in particular, Langton SC has focused on making registration as seamless as possible to encourage both new and returning members. In addition to implementing an online registration platform,  they hosted an in-person registration night, creating a welcoming space for families to ask questions and meet our team. They actively participate in local parades and events, handing out flyers and building awareness of their programs. This strong community presence has been key in maintaining and increasing registration this season.

This club prioritizes an athlete-first approach, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all skaters. They organize fun theme nights that foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where skaters feel engaged and excited to learn. This season, Langton has also enhanced their communication by increasing email updates to keep families informed with reminders, program updates, and opportunities for greater involvement in skating, including competitions and special events. By emphasizing clear communication and a warm, inclusive environment, they strive to make every skater feel valued and supported in their journey.

Langton coaches work as a team, with a hands-on approach to every session. This club welcomed a number of new coaches this season, and was pleased to see experienced team members step in to provide guidance, mentorship and encouragement, ensuring a smooth transition for coaches and skaters alike.  According to Jessica, “this supportive environment not only strengthens our coaching team but also sets a powerful example of teamwork and respect for our athletes.”

As skaters progress, coaches are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment by tailoring instruction to each individual’s unique abilities, needs, and goals. This personalized approach reflects a commitment to ensuring that every skater—regardless of background, experience level, or learning style—has access to the guidance and resources they need to succeed. By focusing on each skater’s progress in a way that celebrates their individuality, Langton create a space where diversity is valued, and all skaters feel encouraged and empowered in their journey.

In terms of volunteering, the Langton board encourages participation at every level, whether it is as program assistants on the ice or helping behind the scenes with events like gala and carnival. This inclusive approach allows volunteers to find roles that suit their interests and skills, fostering a strong sense of belonging and teamwork.

Langton SC proudly participates in the Skate Ontario CanSkate Excellence program, and last season received their Exceeded Standard designation.

According to Jessica, “Our club actively supports Skate Ontario’s values of collaboration and excellence in everything we do. Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, seen in how our coaches, skaters, and volunteers work together seamlessly. Our coaching team exemplifies teamwork, often supporting one another and sharing insights to ensure that each skater receives the best experience possible. Excellence is another core focus for us; our coaches are dedicated to helping skaters reach their full potential, setting high standards while fostering a supportive and motivating environment for skaters of all ages. Through these values, we aim to inspire both growth and camaraderie, building a thriving skating community.”
