STAR 1-5 Excellence Recognition Program – How it Works
The STAR 1-5 program is Skate Canada’s introduction to figure skating program and located in the “learn to train” stage of Long Term Development. The STAR 1-5 program was designed to offer skaters entering this program to be under the direction of a coach as much as possible. Coaches are expected to guide skater’s practice time on and off the ice to help develop good training habits.
Skate Ontario’s STAR 1-5 Excellence Recognition Program recognizes Clubs/Skating schools that are delivering the STAR 1-5 program at or above the national delivery standards set by Skate Canada.
To earn an ENGAGED level of recognition: Have a coach attend a Star 1 to 5 Excellence trainer webinar. Complete the commitment survey. Pay the application fee of $50 + HST. | To earn an ACHIEVED or EXCEEDED level of recognition: Must have earned the Engaged Recognition Level. Complete the checklist and application. The application will ask for an overview of the club/skating schools Star 1 to 5 programs. Approval of application and session evaluations. **Skate Ontario will decide the method of evaluation. ** A specialist will travel to your club to watch sessions live. The session evaluation will be based on the same criteria listed in the Star 1 to 5 Excellence Resource Chart. OR Video submission must include all of the Star 1 to 5 session (with sound), including all session parts (Off ice, Warm-up, Lesson time, Cool-Down). If the club/skating school has sessions geared to different Star levels, multiple videos may be requested. Upon completion of the session evaluation, clubs/skating schools will receive written feedback and results of the evaluation. Trainer webinars will start the first week of September. Registration will open next week. We encourage coaches and clubs/skating schools to review the Star 1 to 5 Excellence Resource Chart. |
