Rowan’s Law Update

Skate Ontario has now posted additional educational resources, an updated “Acknowledgement Template” and a FAQ to our website on our Rowan’s Law page.

Of special note, skaters and their parents/guardians if applicable, who are participating in CanSkate and CanPowerSkate programs, or are skating at STAR 4 or lower, are no longer required to complete the acknowledgements.

ALL other skaters, and parents if applicable, must complete this process on an annual basis.

These updates are effective immediately.

On June 11, 2020, the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries (MHSTCI) announced the implementation date of Phase 2 of Rowan’s Law has been changed from July 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

Phase 2 is the requirement of all sports organizations in Ontario to implement Removal from Sport and Return to Sport protocols as outlined in the Act and Regulations.

Consequently, Skate Ontario will take this time to further develop templates, recommendations and clarification on the requirements for Phase 2 implementation by all clubs and skating schools across the province.

If you missed our webinar on Rowan’s Law, the recording of that webinar can be found here.
