Synchro Coach

Mariposa School of Skating is seeking a Synchro Coach to join our growing team!

Mariposa School of Skating is hiring an independent contractor to join our team of Coaches for our growing Synchro program.  The goal is to field 3 teams in the 2022-2023 season, with the aim of increasing the number of teams over the next few years.  Working with our Synchro Program Coordinator this coach will be responsible for creating a development plan to see teams through to the National Level. As a member of our team, you will have access to the existing Mariposa School of Skating world-class infrastructure, including the existing Mariposa Synchro coaching support team consisting of:

Cathie Gillespie- Team Mariposa Synchro Program Coordinator & Coach
Mitchell Islam – Team Mariposa Synchro Coach & Skating Skills Development
Trinette Goarley – Mariposa School of Skating Office Manager

Hourly rate: to be determined on a candidate qualification/experience basis

Hours of commitment: All Synchro Coaches are responsible for creating their annual training plan in consultation with the Mariposa administrative team. Possibility of gaining additional coaching opportunities at the Barrie Skating Club and Mariposa School of Skating.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Regional Coach In-Training status or higher
  • Registered: to be a Registered Skate Canada Professional Coach, full payment is required of all registration fees and insurance premiums annually by Skate Canada.
  • In Good Standing: To be a Registered Skate Canada Professional Coach in Good Standing, the following is required:
    • Must hold a valid first aid certificate
    • Screening must be done through the company approved by Skate Canada. Following a review of the results of this screening, the status must show as “Clear” In the Skate Canada profile of the coach.
    • NCCP certified coaches must maintain a renewed NCCP certification status as per the Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) Maintenance of Certification Policy.
    • Have agreed to the Skate Canada Code of Ethics.
    • Completed the Respect in Sport Activity Leader Training. A coach must be re-certified in this training every 3 years.
    • Previous experience with coaching synchro or skating on a competitive synchro team would be considered an asset
    • Record of experience in skating and coaching
    • References will be requested, should you be contacted for an interview.
