Today the provincial government announced that the entire province of Ontario will be in a 28 day shut down effective April 3 at 12:01am. As we await the release of the detailed legislation related to these new government restrictions, Skate Ontario is assuming that the HP exemption for skaters and coaches to continue training will remain in place.
Pursuant to O.Reg. 779/20, Section 48 of Schedule 2 of O.Reg. 82/20, the Province has provided a very limited exemption for skaters to continue training during periods of shutdown/lockdown. We have identified this list of athletes, coaches & officials in conjunction with Skate Canada as required by the regulation. This training must be executed following the training group restrictions within the previous Red Zone parameters of a maximum of 10 skaters on the ice.
Please refer to and follow the Skate Ontario Return to Play Protocols (updated as of March 18, 2021) and also note that clubs and skating schools should continue to work with their Local Public Health Units and facilities to ensure activities are in alignment with public health, municipal and facility requirements.
We recognize this further suspension of training is very disappointing for our Skate Ontario athletes and coaches at all levels. We look forward to the future relaxation of these restrictions and will continue to provide you with updates as soon as we have them.
