What is a Base Level Technical Official (BLTO) Seminar?

The goal of the base level technical officials’ seminar is to prepare prospective technical officials to serve as contributing members of event technical panels with confidence and success.

To achieve this goal and through participation in the seminar, prospective officials will:

  • Receive an overview of the event structure
  • Gain the necessary technical knowledge that will enable them to accurately apply the standards of assessment for all technical elements
  • Participate in mock panels to simulate an event experience
  • Learn the duties and competencies required of technical officials
  • Become familiar with event procedures
  • Receive direction on next steps for appointment as a technical official following the clinic

 Who can become a Technical Official?

  • Must be at least 16 years old (may be under 16 at time of training)
  • Have a valid Skate Canada number and be eligible to officiate as an official
  • Must meet one of the following “Skating Background” criteria as defined by Skate Canada:
    • Any two of Junior Bronze or STAR 5 Free Skating, Skills, Dance tests, or
    • Any one of Senior Bronze Free Skating, Skills, Dance, or a Juvenile Competitive Test, or
    • Any one higher level test

  • Please make sure you have your Skate Canada number ready for registration.
  • You must attend the entire clinic.
