Skate Ontario Sectional Championships – Format Change

Due to the recent announcements from the Provincial government regarding the increase of modified stage two areas and the strong recommendation against travel in and out of these regions, we have made the difficult decision to change the format of the Skate Ontario Sectional Championships to a virtual, video-based competition format.

The Skate Ontario Sectional Championships scheduled to be held in Milton, November 4-6, 2020 at the Sherwood Community Centre will no longer be an in-person competition for skaters and officials.  The adjusted virtual competition format will follow Skate Canada guidelines for the Virtual Skate Canada Challenge event; skater’s performances will be filmed and subsequently will be scored by officials in a virtual format.

As an organization we continue to make decisions based on the following guiding principles:

  • Safety first for all our members
  • Follow Public Health standards and guidelines
  • Seek input from stakeholders
  • Provide meaningful performance opportunities, within COVID-19 limitations

More information will be released shortly, with further details on the virtual competition format.

For planning purposes, we anticipate the approximate dates for the videos to be filmed will be between November 4-13, 2020. This is tentative and will be confirmed based on ice bookings.  Skate Ontario will be organizing the video filming and locations will be chosen based on current travel recommendations.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this challenging time.
