Skate Ontario Return to Play Update

With the announcement of additional regions moving into Grey/Lockdown zone (York Region and Windsor-Essex region as of Monday, December 14 at 12:01 am), Skate Ontario would like to remind you of our Return to Play protocols for Clubs and Skating Schools with respect to each zone.

Clubs and skating schools in the Grey/Lockdown zones are considered to be within Stage 1. Arenas and community centres in these regions are ordered to be closed. The Province has provided a very limited exemption for skaters to continue training that are working towards qualification for the next winter Olympics. Therefore, Junior and Senior skaters who have qualified to participate in the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge leading to the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships are permitted to continue training within lockdown zones. This training must be executed following the training group restrictions within the Red Zone parameters.

Clubs and skating schools in the Red zone are considered to be within Stage 2. Please find below the updated information for Red Zone programming:

  • The total number of members of the public permitted to in all classes, organized programs or organized activities at any one time indoors in a facility must be limited to the number that can maintain a physical distance of at least two metres from other persons at the facility, and in any event cannot exceed 10 people.
    • The limit of 10 people applies to members of the public participating in classes, organized programs or organized activities, not the employees, coaches, officials, trainers, spectators or accompanying parents/guardians.
  • There are not specific limits on the number of employees, coaches, officials and trainers; however, it cannot exceed the number of people who are able to maintain a physical distance of two metres and all people must maintain a physical distance of two metres from anyone else.

Clubs and skating schools in the Green, Yellow and Orange zones are considered to be within Stage 3. As such, the Maximum Training Group Sizes remain as they are published in the Skate Ontario Return to Play Protocols (Version 5.0).

All Skate Ontario Clubs and Skating Schools should continue to communicate with their facilities and diligently maintain all other Skate Ontario Return to Play Protocols. Skate Ontario will continue to provide Return to Play updates every two weeks, unless other changes or announcements are made in the meantime. Should you have questions related to this, please contact the Skate Ontario Club Support Services.
