Skate Ontario 2020-2021 Event Calendar

Skate Ontario is moving ahead with announcing our planned 2020/21 event calendar, so that when Skaters and Coaches can return to the ice, we will be ready!

We want to reassure the Ontario skating community that at this time, we are not cancelling the entire season. To date, we have only had to cancel one event for the 2020/21 season. As previously announced, we regrettably have had to cancel Sectional Series #1 originally schedule for July 2020.

It is also important to note that we are actively working on developing adjusted event formats, if the need arises, that can meet COVID-19 related requirements as those are confirmed in the weeks and months ahead.

As of May 6, 2020, this schedule is tentative and subject to change as COVID-19 restrictions and return to play parameters are determined. We expect these to continue to evolve over the weeks ahead.

Skate Ontario is proud to announce the dates and locations for the 2020-2021 competitive season in the Sectionals, Super, Synchro and STAR 1-4 Series. Please find the 2020-2021 Event Calendar here.

COVID-19 Impacts on Event Calendar:

  • As we continue to respond to COVID-19 related changes and issues, the event schedule will change as required based on advice from public health officials and on an event by event basis. Please be advised the calendar will be changed as required.
  • As the safety and well-being of our skaters, coaches, officials and volunteers is our priority, our framework for making future decisions include the following elements:
    • We have consulted with coaches to identify an appropriate training period to allow skaters to train and be prepared to safely compete.
    • Skate Ontario and our LOCs will require a few weeks to prepare for registration and event planning.  Skate Ontario will make “Go or No-Go” decisions on whether or not an event will run 10-12 weeks prior to the scheduled event date.
    • It is also understood that circumstances may dictate other changes may be required to be made in that window.
  • Currently, there are some holes in the calendar that are directly related to COVID-19 disruptions, as many municipalities are unable to confirm ice allocations at this time. In the Events Calendar and Opportunity Charts, holes in the schedule, impacted by COVID, will be identified and labelled as ‘COVID’ where the host club would be listed. (See example below):

New for 2020-2021 Event Calendar

Based on feedback from last year, we have made the following improvements to the Event Calendar;

  • STAR 1-4 competitions are offered in late November
  • STAR 5 to Gold Supplementary categories are offered around the GTA
  • Less overlap between Synchro, Super and STAR 1-4 events, where possible
  • Synchro Adult Championship is earlier in the event calendar
  • Artistic is now a Provincials qualifying category
