CANSkate Coordinator 2019/20 Season-East York Skating Club

The East York Skating Club is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized and motivated professional to lead our busy and popular CANSkate program.

We are a well-established club operating out of the East York memorial Arena. We have approximately 500 skaters in the CANSkate program and offer 10 Pre-CAN through CANSkate sessions per week.

Reporting to the Board of Directors of the East York Skating Club ( the” Club”) and in cooperation with the Club administrator, the CANSkate Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our CANSkate program to ensure that it meets the business imperatives of the club while aligning to Skate Canada’s program delivery guidelines. This position requires approximately 4 hours per week of admin plus approximately 8 hours per week of on-ice supervision.


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • All details related to on-ice program delivery organization a implementation to ensure balanced groups and a smooth flow to the session including ,
      • Grouping skaters, ensuring a balanced skater/coach ratio
      • coordinating warm up rotation for coaches,
      • Managing/scheduling coaches and program assistants
      • Provide on ice support to coaches, PA’s and skaters
      • Distribution of groups to coaches
      • Music selection and recording
      • Preparation and management of name tags
      • Prepare and maintain all data related to attendance, (badge and ribbon tracking)
      • Provide ongoing monitoring of all skaters in consultation with coaches to ensure appropriateness of group assignments and making changes as required.
    • Progress report cards
    • Planning special theme days
    • Communicating with the Board
    • Being available during on ice sessions to coordinate/problem solve and manage ongoing issues (The CANSkate Coordinator may need to coach in an extreme staffing emergency but is not to take private lessons)
    • Responding to parent compliments, concerns and questions
    • The coordination and promotion of the helmet and skate fitting sessions to take place before the season commences.
    • The CANSkate parent information sessions
    • Manage the PA program tracking attendance, PA of the month, PA events
    • The organizing and delivery of a training clinic for the program
    • Responsible for the purchase and distribution of approved program required equipment and incentives.

Ensuring the safety of the skaters through communication of mandatory equipment i.e. helmets for CANSkate session skaters and monitoring of the same. Provide basic first aid for skaters as required.

Position requirements:

Computer proficiency including word and excel. Experience with the Uplifter system.
Skate Canada certified professional coach with current first aid certificate and police check.
Dedicated to the sport of figure skating.
