Skate Ontario Pre-Novice & Novice Sectional Championship Registration Information

With the continuing evolution of the COVID-19 situation, Skate Ontario considers the safety of our stakeholders as our highest priority. We will continue to respond to changes adjust our event planning balancing the sport needs of our stakeholders and the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, we are happy to share that we will soon be opening registration for the Skate Ontario Pre-Novice and Novice Sectional Championship. This Championship will be conducted using Sectional Video Hub Locations with Remote Officiating. Based on Skate Canada COVID-19 requirements, a Sectionals Video Hub location is essentially a filming location for skaters. Each program will be filmed by a Skate Ontario videographer and sent to Skate Ontario directly. The programs will then be compiled and subsequently judged remotely by Skate Ontario officials to determine Sectional results.

The Skate Ontario Sectionals Video Hubs are currently planned be taking place between February 1 and 12, 2021. The final number, location and timing of competition hubs is still to be determined and will be driven by the Ontario COVID-19 Response Framework and the on-going pandemic situation in Ontario. Skaters will skate their Short/Pattern Dances and Free programs/dances on two consecutive weekdays between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. At each hub location there will be an Ice Level Referee and a Skate Ontario staff member on-site. Skaters will be assigned to a hub based on their training location and the current COVID-19 conditions. The video hub locations will be communicated by January 15, 2021.

Please note that Skate Canada has adjusted certain rules regarding qualifications for entry for this season. Competitors wishing to enter Qualifying Events must have passed the assessments as outlined in the competition program requirements for each discipline no later than 14 days preceding the start of the first segment of the event in which they are competing. These championships will identify the top skaters in Ontario for advancement to the Skate Canada National Pre-Novice & Novice event currently planned for March/April 2021.

Registration will be open on December 16 at 2:00pm ET until Tuesday, December 22 at 11:59pm ET.  For the event announcement and the link to register click here.

Please note we recognize the on-going uncertainty makes training planning challenging, especially as more regions of the province move in and possibly remain in Grey/Lockdown status. Skate Ontario will continue to consider the feasibility of executing these planned Sectionals Video Hubs and should the situation change, full and partial refunds will be considered.
